FAQs
(1) What plants should I bring?
Bring any plants you’d like to share! Houseplants are popular, but ornamentals, edibles, rares, and commons are all welcome. You can also bring unopened, sterilized plant mediums and accessories—someone will love them!
Note: We may exclude plants that look unwell, unprepared cuttings, or materials that aren’t disinfected or in good condition.
(2) Why are Swaps in-person?
We host all swaps in person to capture the joy and energy of live interactions. There’s a unique magic in connecting face-to-face, sharing stories, and building a community that can’t be replicated online.
To keep the connection going, we encourage you to join our Facebook Community! It’s a great space to ask questions, share experiences, and enjoy some good old-fashioned plant swapping between events.
(3) Why do you charge a registration fee, and what does the fee include?
Your registration fee covers venue costs, refreshments, supplies, and the work of our photographers. We also love partnering with local vendors to make the event extra special.
There are two ticket types:
Swappers: Full participation, including swapping plants.
Observers: Enjoy the event without swapping.
Your ticket includes:
Baked goods, hot drinks, and discounts at partner cafés (if available)
Access/admission to the green space
Participation in activities (workshops, garden tours, creative projects)
Plant giveaways donated by local plant shop partners.
Unclaimed/adoptable plants (though we encourage donating it to the designated Swap charity)
Discounted tickets are available for volunteers.
(4) Can I bring family and friends? Are the swaps pet-friendly?
Absolutely! Family and friends are welcome, but they’ll need their own tickets to enjoy event perks. If the venue charges admission, you’re responsible for their fees.
Pet policies depend on the venue. Service animals are always welcome, and we’ll confirm pet-friendliness in the prep email sent before the event.
(5) What is a typical Swap program like? Do I need to be there through the whole event?
Swaps are usually Saturday mornings, so you can enjoy the day. Here’s a typical schedule:
9:00 AM: Check-in, enjoy baked goods, and set up your plants.
10:00–11:30 AM: Plant setup, workshops, garden tours, or creative activities.
11:30 AM: Check-in closes.
12:00 PM: Swap begins.
1:00 PM: Intermission with giveaways from local vendors.
~1:30 PM: Swap ends.
Important: Check-in ends 30 minutes before the swap starts to ensure everyone has enough time to set up their offerings and bid on plants. Swappers arriving after 11:30 AM may not participate in the swap portion but are welcome to enjoy the rest of the event. This policy helps the swap run smoothly and fairly for everyone.
If you’re swapping, you must be present to claim your plants and giveaways.
(6) What happens to the plants I offer that are not claimed/adopted?
You’re welcome to take back any of your unclaimed plants, but we encourage donating them to the Swap’s designated local charity. Our volunteers will prepare them for delivery, so they go to a good home!
